SPLaSh is a free service offering practical support in a friendly, welcoming environment to community members who are sleeping rough or experiencing other forms of homelessness.
The program offers access to showers, washing machines and dryers with soap, shampoo, towels and laundry powder provided.
Food is also provided, a simple lunch and something to take away if desired. There are toiletry packs and access to other material aid including tents, swags and bedding.
Other support services also attend SPLaSh, offering a chance to contact services that may be difficult to access. For those attending, housing is a major issue so we have set up the Southern Peninsula Homeless Connections program to help reconnect people to housing services or if possible find alternative accommodation.
SPLaSh currently runs each Monday and Thursday from 11.30am to 2.30pm to the rear of the foreshore amenities block, opposite Boneo Road and the Skate Park on the Rosebud foreshore.
NOTE: From May to the end of August SPLaSh has relocated to the Section 11B shower block, approx. 300 metres towards Rye from the usual site, for the winter.
SPLaSH is fully funded by donations, our major SPLaSh supporter is the Rye Op Shop (Southern Peninsula Community Fund), also our centre’s longest supporting donor (since 1984). This year the Rotary Club of Sorrento have given a wonderful $18,000 to help with the running of the program thanks to their fantastic Point Nepean Heritage Motor Show. There are many other individuals who also assist with cash, food and material goods, together you make it happen. The Mornington Peninsula Shire has supported the program from the start by providing access to our facility and supporting us many other ways.
